Nurikabe

Literally means “painted wall”. Nurikabe is an invisible wall. Nurikabe’s real appearance is unknown, but as time went by, artist has a way to illustrate this yokai.

When you bump into something invisible, you might be encountering the Nurikabe. When you try to go left the wall extends to the left. When you go right, the invisible wall extends to the right, there’s no way to move forward. Travelers are forced to find another way since they cannot pass it. They say that there is a way to get rid of the Nurikabe by taking a stick and hit the ground next to the invisible wall a few times and it will eventually go away.

They are harmless and they just want to block travelers from passing late at night.
